Sam Joson-Nish
Birth & Postpartum Doula
Like a big sister, but for birth!
About Sam
Hey there! I’m Sam Joson-Nish. I’m a Southern California–born daughter of Filipino immigrants, and I’m deeply passionate about supporting my community through birthwork and health education. I aim to bring calm, curiosity, empathy, and lots of encouragement to every birth. My path to doula work was a bit winding but always meaningful, with roots in journalism, comprehensive sex ed, women’s empowerment, and early childhood education. Those paths share a through line: a commitment to health education, reproductive justice, and building caring communities. I completed my birth doula training in June 2025 through SMC Full Circle Doula Birth Companion Training, and I’m proud to be working with Community Doula Alliance. Both organizations recognize the systemic inequities birthing people, especially those of color, face and aim to improve maternal and infant health outcomes through accessible, culturally specific care. I’m honored to offer support that helps families feel informed, cared for, and less alone as they move through pregnancy, birth, and beyond. I can't wait to meet you!
Why I Do This Work
In my doula work, “big sister” captures the role I strive to hold: Someone steady, nurturing, and reassuring during a deeply personal time. Like an older sister, I offer calm presence, shared wisdom, and advocacy. I also believe support can be fun and light, not just serious. We'll laugh together, ease nerves, and make space for joy, while still making sure you have clear, empowering information at every stage of your pregnancy. My goal is for you to feel informed, confident, supported, and never alone every step of the way.
